Where’s the rest of “Big Face Money”?
The song appeared on the “Hold On” CD single in 1999. It’s only 39 seconds long. A timestamp that short doesn’t bode well, but those 39 seconds sound snipped from something longer. The band is already thumping along when track fades in, and, when it fades out half a minute later, it sounds like the band keeps going. So where’s the rest?
What little you get sounds like a proper song too, not just an aimless jam. Tom’s only co-write with his son Casey, who plays drums on this song and many others (he’s been his touring drummer quite a bit too), “Big Face Money” gives you a verse and chorus. The lyrics are:
When the show is over and the work is through
I want the big face moneyI'll get all that cash and bring it home to you
I'll get the big face moneyI'll get the big face money
I want the big face money
I'll get the big face money
It’s Tom in full holler mode, every one of those lines roared at top volume with a dirty, loud-as-hell blues band thundering behind him. Who wouldn’t want more of this?
So what’s the story Tom? Is there more? Can we hear the full thing on Orphans II? I want the “Big Face Money” too.
As a direct result of this song I have always referred to any denomination over $5 as "big face money." Sometimes just "face money." As in, going through the hat full of tips to split with the driver after running a tour, "All right, we got some face money tonight."
