There is so much truth in that tension between making something for fun and it turning into work. Appreciate you sharing it.

I did miss this newsletter! I'm happy you're back. For "Diamonds and Gold," I agree with you that the lyrics are a bit hard to decipher but weirdly, this song always reminds me of this "Breaking Bad" scene where Walter White is rolling a barrel through the desert.

Love Tom Waits, but in all honesty, the first song title that came to mind was Diamond Dogs by David Bowie. \m/

Thanks for restarting! I know how you feel: I write a chess blog for... myself, I guess, and sometimes it's hard to write stuff just to send it out into the ether.

These three middle songs from "Rain Dogs" - Time, Diamonds and Gold, and Hang Down Your Head - while not as celebrated as others from this album, are I think three of the most evocative. All feel like they've been around forever, but are still new and fresh.

And the lines "and all his disciples, they shave in the gutter, and they gather what's left of his clothes": perfect! What does it mean? Who cares?

Nice cover as well, thanks.

No rush here. Enjoy the emails when I get them, we'll roll at your speed. My main comment on this song is that it is "Chim Chim Chir-ee."
